In a candid interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, global superstar Doja Cat is getting real about her artistic evolution and newfound confidence ahead of her highly anticipated album, Vie. The project, a follow-up to her critically acclaimed 2023 release Scarlet, is set to drop this Friday, September 26.

Despite her multiple Grammy wins and a string of chart-topping hits, the "Say So" artist revealed she's faced significant self-doubt throughout her career. But those days are over. "I’m very proud of the music I’m making now," Doja Cat shared with CBS host Michelle Miller. "I’m very excited because it’s things I wasn’t able to do before.”

The singer-rapper confessed that she previously struggled to "hit certain riffs or runs" but has seen a dramatic improvement with hard work and dedication. "I used to joke about that….I used to pretend to [sing]. And then I just sucked it up and stopped joking so much and took myself more seriously," she explained.

Fans got a first look at the album's title back in July when Doja Cat announced Vie on Instagram with the caption: “Je sais que tu es ma vie 🥖 Vie out 9/26.” The French phrase translates to "I know you are my life," hinting at a deeply personal and meaningful project.

Doja Cat's rise to pop superstardom was cemented with projects like Hot Pink (2019) and Planet Her (2021). However, feeling her skills as an MC were being underestimated, she pivoted with Scarlet in 2023. She previously told the New York Times that the project was almost a "massive fart" she needed to get out. "Not to diminish it, but it was a bit of like, I just need to get this out," she said.

Reflecting on her past work, Doja continued, “I thought fixing that would entail making music that was more visceral or more emotional or maybe more angry or more sad. And I enjoyed performing it onstage, but it didn’t get me all the way there.” Now, she's ready to "return" to what feels right.

Get ready to experience the next chapter of Doja Cat's musical journey. Vie promises to be a powerful testament to her growth as both an artist and an individual.
